If you've been thinking about growing a moustache - then November is for you.
For the next 30 days, men around the world will grow moustaches to raise money and awareness for men's health. Known as Movember, the organization raised $147 million last year for health programs that combat prostate and testicular cancer.
"Movember's mission has never wavered -- to have an everlasting impact on the state of men's health. Our aim is to encourage men to take control of their health, know their family health history, and know their numbers. Over the years Movember has grown into a truly global movement," says Movember's U.S .director Mark Hedstrom.
Here's how it works: you can donate to the Movember foundation or grow a moustache over the next month and ask family and friends to donate to the movement. And it's not just for men...women can register and recruit the men in their lives to get involved by growing a "Mo" (as its affectionately known by the organization). And at the end of November, participants celebrate their "hairy achievements" with extravagant costume parties.
What began as a small organization 10 years ago in Melbourne, Australia, Movember has grown to become a global movement with 1.1 million participants from more than 20 countries, including some of the established U.S. restaurants.
One of them, Del Frisco's Grille, is so dedicated to the organization, the Movember Foundation will get a percentage of sales from each item ordered from Del Frisco's special Movember menu.
To kick off the event, Del Frisco's in Santa Monica is hosting a "'Stache Bash" where men can get a clean shave. Del Frisco's is also offering manicures for the ladies, a special drink menu, moustache growing contests and more.
