2014 Chevrolet SS teased in photos from Australia
Feb 11th 2013, 16:50

Chevy has a new muscle car.

But you can't see it until Saturday.

Impatient?

That's OK, because GM has given us a sneak peek.

The 2014 Chevrolet SS is set to make its debut at Daytona International Speedway in conjunction with the season-opening Sprint Unlimited race on February 16th. A successor to the short-lived Pontiac G8, the full-size sports sedan also forms the basis of Chevy's latest NASCAR entry.

Like that car, the four-door SS was engineered and will be built by GM's Australian division, Holden, which sells its own version of the vehicle called the VF Commodore. Over the weekend it released the first official photos of that car, offering preview what the SS will look like.

A clear evolution of the G8, the new car features a headlight and split grille design similar to recent Chevy models, and an all-new, upscale interior. In Australia it will be available with a selection of six and eight-cylinder engines, while the SS is expected to be positioned as a range-topping halo car powered exclusively by a very potent V8.

To that end, images of an incomplete clay model of the yet to be revealed high performance version of the VF Commodore have also surfaced, and it shares several visual elements with the SS race car, suggesting an even closer resemblance to the car that will be sold here.

We'll find out just how close soon enough.
