Aug 20th 2013, 16:19

NSA leaker Edward Snowden may have had to flee Hong Kong, China, a few weeks ago, but he apparently left a lasting impression behind.

A Beijing-based electric vehicle powertrain company has filed a trademark application to apply the name "Snowden" to its top secret technology, the South China Morning Post reports.

According to the newspaper, Hong Yuan Lan Xiang is developing removable batteries, fast charging systems and a way to retrofit electric powertrains into conventional cars.

Experts say it could take over a year for the application to be processed, and its approval is far from certain do to the politicized nature of Snowden's name.

Hong Yuan Lan Xiang says the first cars using its technology will be on the road before the end of 2013.
