The Honda for 5-year-olds
Oct 4th 2013, 13:11

Karting is one of the simplest and cheapest ways for kids to get involved in motorsport, and it's where a ton of big names in all forms of racing have gotten their start.

In an effort to help the Kid Karting grow in popularity, Honda Performance Development has announced the arrival of GHX50 Kid Karting engine.

The GHX50 is designed to "improve quality, reliability and balance performance...", and will come with an HPD-spec clutch, engine mount, chain guard and hardware.

"One of the goals of the Honda Racing Line is to support (these) novice racers," said Marc Sours, senior manager of HPD's Commercial Division. "Through our Kid Kart engine program, we hope to make it easier for these young racers and their families to discover the fun of our sport."

The cost of the GXH50 will be $829, and engine life is expected to be "well in excess of 200 hours."

The new engine is available through the Honda Racing Line, a program designed to provide a direct connection to Honda Performance Development.

For young kids and families wanting to get their feet in the door with motorsport, cheaply and reliably, Honda seems to have provided a viable new option.

Hey, even Sebstian Vettel had to start somewhere.
