We'll admit it: we're suckers for car museums, and frequently plan vacations around hitting up collections we haven't visited, trying to find cars we've never seen. Admission is rarely free, and when you factor in the cost of travel, seeing a 1934 Avions Voisin C 25 up-close-and-personal can cost a lot of money.
That's why we're so entranced with the Road, Inc. app for the Apple iPad. It's literally a car museum at your fingertips, complete with images, videos, sound clips and documentation on 50 of the world's finest automobiles. The range is impressive, covering everything from supercars through historically significant basic transportation.
Even it's original asking price of $9.99 seemed like a bargain, especially since equivalent coffee-table books for sell for twice the amount. Developer Pyrolia has since lowered the asking price to $6.99, which really does represent a solid bargain for the ultimate gear head time-suck.
Still, that wasn't inexpensive enough for the most frugal of enthusiasts, prompting Pyrolia to launch a free teaser version of the Raod, Inc. app. To be clear, you only get one car with the free version, but at least its a Ferrari 250 GTO.
Any of the other 49 cars included in the original app can be downloaded for $0.99 each, or cars can be purchased in groups by era, which range in price from $1.99 to $3.99. Decide you want all of them, and the price is still just $6.99.
That's about the price of a fast-food lunch, and we'd rather skip a meal than pass on an automotive-themed app that's as well-executed as this one. If you have an iPad (since it's not available on any other platform) and you're even remotely interested in classic cars, do yourself a favor - just buy the complete version and call it done.
