Turns out the most popular vehicle in America is also one of the safest.
The 2013 Ford F-150 has received top marks in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's latest round of full-size pickup truck crash tests.
Along with the 2012 Honda Ridgeline and 2013 Toyota Tundra, the F-150 received the highest rating of Good in front, side, rollover and rear impact tests.
Vehicles are assigned a score in each of the tests of Good, Acceptable, Marginal or Poor.
The redesigned 2013 Dodge Ram didn't fare quite as well as the others, earning a Marginal rollover rating to go with its Good front and rear showings, while the 2012 Nissan Titan did slightly better, getting an Acceptable rollover rating to go with two Goods. Neither was tested for side impact.
Bringing up the rear were the 2013 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sienna twins, which got Good front impact ratings, but Acceptable scores for the side and rear crash tests and Marginal for rollover.
The GM pickups are scheduled to be replaced by all-new vehicles in 2014.
