Siri coming to Chevy Spark, Sonic
Nov 27th 2012, 18:25

Siri is on a roll.

Chevrolet is introducing three cars early next year that will be compatible with Apple's iPhone-based voice command system.

Top trim levels of the automaker's two smallest cars, the Spark and Sonic, as well as the battery-powered Spark EV will come with a version of Chevrolet's touchscreen MyLink infotainment system that can pair with a Siri-enabled iPhone and tap into a host of hands-free features.

After activating it by pressing a button on the steering wheel, drivers will be able to voice dial phone calls, dictate and send text messages, ask Siri to read incoming messages aloud, control their iTunes library and access their calendar.

When linked to the car, Siri operates in a special Eyes-Free mode that keeps the iPhone screen dark to minimize distractions, and Chevrolet say it won't answer any complex questions that require bringing up a web page.

Chevrolet is one of several automakers that have announced plans to integrate Siri into their vehicles, but with a launch of the system set for early 2013, it looks like it will be the first to market in the United States.
