How much would you pay for Jimmie Johnson's car, or at least something that looks like it?
Does $44,470 sound like a good deal?
That's how much the Chevrolet SS sports sedan will cost when it goes on sale at the end of this year.
The SS, which shares little more than its name and face with Chevy's NASCAR entry, is powered by a 415 hp V8 driving the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission.
A reboot of the Pontiac G8 GXP that died with that GM brand, the SS has an updated interior with sport seats, a beefy steering wheel and a long list of standard features that includes navigation, head-up display, blind spot alert and a lane departure warning system that would get really annoying on the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway.
The only options are a sunroof and full-size spare tire -- and at 19x9 inches, it's a big one.
Chevrolet says the SS can accelerate to 60 mph in 5 seconds. Fuel economy has not yet been announced, but the car will be subject to a gas guzzler tax.
The G8 GXP had an EPA rating of 13 mpg city and 20 mpg highway, so plan on making a lot of pit stops.
