Got a need for speed? Yep, with a side of heavy hauling.
Ford has unveiled a custom Mustang and F-450 that will star in next summer's big screen adaptation of the "Need for Speed" videogame franchise as part of the automaker's promotional tie-up with the film.
The 662 hp Mustang Shelby GT500 has a one-off widebody kit and 22-inch wheels to give it a properly exaggerated arcade style, but the brawny F-450 could steal the show, or at least push its rivals out of the way.
The Super Duty truck is powered by Ford's 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel engine, but has been fitted with a Magna Flow exhaust that breathes through a set of smokestack-style pipes. A custom cargo box, front bumper with integrated bull bar, 9,000-pound winch, 7-inch lift kit and First Attack wheels complete its action hero look.
A Mustang camera car was also provided for filming to help get those high-speed action shots.
The Shelby will presumably be the hero ride for the film's star, Aaron Paul, who plays a street racer just out of prison who finds redemption on a cross country road race.
Don't we wish we could all do the same.
The movie premiers on March 14th, just a month before the Mustang's 50th anniversary, about the time many expect the next generation car to be revealed.
Will it make a surprise appearance in the film?
A Ford rep says he hasn't seen to movie yet, so he'll be surprised at everything.
Sounds like it might be worth the price of admission to find out.
