Chevy Camaro coming back to America
Dec 19th 2012, 21:49

The Chevrolet Camaro is coming back to America.

After two decades of building Camaros at a facility in Oshawa, Canada, General Motors has announced that it will manufacture the upcoming sixth generation of its legendary coupe in its Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant in Lansing, Michigan.

The Lansing factory currently produces the rear-wheel-drive Cadillac CTS and ATS, and rumor has it that the all-new, Camaro will be derived from the same platform as those cars when it goes into production for the 2016 model year. This announcement confirms that a sixth generation car is in the works.

Along with the rear-wheel-drive Camaro, the Oshawa plant is home to the front-wheel-drive Buick Regal, Cadillac XTS and Chevrolet Impala. GM says moving it to Michigan simply makes good business sense.

Among the Camaro's pony car competitors, the Ford Mustang is made in Flat Rock, Michigan while the Dodge Challenger is built in Brampton, Canada.
