Novak Djokovic buys up world's supply of donkey cheese
Dec 11th 2012, 13:57

Tennis great Novak Djokovic has purchased the entire global supply of a rare cheese produced from donkey milk that can cost over $500 per pound.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the Wimbledon champion and world number one player said he wants to use the white, crumbly cheese, called Pule, in a chain of restaurants he's opening.

The cheese, which recently set the record for the world's most expensive cheese, is reportedly so pricey because 2.2 lbs of the delicacy requires 6 gallons of donkey milk.

Djokovic reportedly bought the annual output of Pule from the world's sole producer, a donkey farm 50 miles west of the Serbian capital Belgrade. The Serbian farm also produces donkey soap and bottled donkey milk, which is said to contain 60 times more vitamin C than cow's milk, according to the Daily Mail.

Donkey milk is said to be very healthy for humans as it has anti-allergen properties, contains only one per cent milk fat, and is drunk only fresh because precious ingredients get lost if boiled, reports the Telegraph.
