The Cadillac CTS has a fresh set of clothes, and they're even slicker than before.
The all-new luxury sedan was unveiled in Manhattan tonight prior to its public debut at the New York Auto Show.
With its LED-light tube enhanced face and sporty V-shaped rear end, it looks just like you'd expect the big brother of Cadillac's new ATS compact would. Its longer, leaner profile featuring classic lines that are very suitable for a 21st century Mad Man.
But it's not all about the suit.
The CTS is fully reengineered from the bottom up. That means a new, lighter, rear or all-wheel-drive chassis and an engine lineup that features a 321 hp 3.6-liter V6, 272-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder and GM's first twin-turbo V6 engine, which churns out a potent 420 hp.
The rear-wheel-drive V6s also get Caddy's first 8-speed automatic transmissions, while the rest get by with updated six-speed automatics. Magnetically controlled active suspension is optional.
Turbo models are designated VSport, and also come with summer tires, high performance Brembo brakes, a heavy duty cooling system, an electronic limited slip differential and a track mode for the suspension and steering.
Inside, the CTS features the latest in Cadillac cabin design, with lots of stitched, soft-touch materials, a choice of wood, carbon fiber or aluminum trim, touch-sensitive controls, tablet-style CUE infotainment system and a the same full LCD instrument cluster found in the XTS full-size sedan.
Front seats feature up to 20-way adjustability and are stuffed with vibration damping foam, while the driver's seat can be equipped with a safety alert system that vibrates the seat cushion if the car drifts from its lane or a potential collision is detected. Adaptive cruise control and automatic braking systems are also available.
Pricing has not yet been revealed, but production of the 2014 CTS is set for this fall.
