Craziest gummy candies Mar 5th 2013, 19:00 Adorable shapes and fruity flavors have traditionally made gummy bears a favorite among children and adults alike for years. But now these cuddly little confections have spawned candies that come in just about every shape and size --some not so cute. The very first gummy bear was invented in Germany in 1920 by Hans Riegel, the owner of the Haribo Candy Company. The gummy bear is a gelatin based candy placed into a mold to create it's iconic shape. After Riegal passed away in World War II, his son took over the company expanding it across Europe. These chewy and tasty candies didn't make it to the U.S. until 1982, but they definitely made up for lost time. The candy's popularity grew quickly and today they've taken on seemingly endless forms. Here's a look at some of the wackier varieties. | |
